Greeting Card - New Home

Greeting Card - New Home
Illustration II - March 2011
Project Brief

A new greeting card company is looking for an innovative illustration style to enhance 4 of
their card categories. The categories are:

“Bon Voyage” - Encouraging a safe & enjoyable trip
“New Baby” - Announcement for baby boy or baby girl
“New Home” - Best of luck in your new home
“Pet Sympathy” (thinking of you) with sympathy on the loss of your dearest companion.

This problem is designed to challenge the ability to work quickly and efficiently within a relatively short
time frame. The solution must be created in class within the 2 hours and 45 minute time frame.

My Solution

I chose to make my card for the "New Home" category. I played around with a few different ideas such as a moving truck leaving and revealing a new home, a home with a bow on top, and a bird couple admiring their new home. In the end, I decided to focus on the idea of the birds and their new birdhouse, but simplified. Instead of a bird couple, I only created one bird flying home to his new bird house among other birdhouses.

The card is rendered out of cut paper collaged together. I used various shades of blue to emphasize the focal points such as the bird and its home. I created other birdhouses using colors closer to the background, with bits of blue to tie in with the main bird house. The sign has hand rendered text and is "hung" from the bird house with paper, cut thinly to resemble string.
